Play Facebook video with the screen off on iPhone

iOS suspends the Facebook app when you switch away or press the side button, and Facebook publishes nothing to the system's media controls, so the sound stops with the app.

Safari does hold background audio and does put a track on the Lock Screen and in Control Centre. Paste a Facebook link into LoopRush in Safari and the sound plays there instead, with nothing from the App Store.

Step by step in Safari

  1. In the Facebook app, tap Share under the video, then Copy link.
  2. Open looprush2.com in Safari and paste the link.
  3. The sound extracts in a few seconds and starts playing.
  4. Press the side button. Playback continues, and the Lock Screen shows the track with play, pause and skip.

Why there is no share-sheet shortcut on iPhone

Android lets an installed web app register as a share target, so Facebook's Share sheet can hand a link straight to it. iOS does not offer that to web apps, so the copy-and-paste step is the whole of it here: Share, Copy link, paste.

Add to Home Screen still helps. It opens LoopRush full screen without Safari's bars, keeps your stacks between visits, and behaves like an app when you switch back to it.

Controls, headphones and the Lock Screen

Once a sound is playing, iOS treats it as normal media. The Lock Screen and Control Centre show the track with transport buttons, AirPods and wired headset clicks map to play, pause and skip, and the volume keys work as usual.

A stack keeps going on its own: when one sound ends the next starts, and repeat and shuffle both work with the screen off, so a long Facebook clip or a set of them runs without unlocking the phone.

What it does not do on iPhone

It is not a downloader. No file lands in your camera roll; the audio plays from LoopRush and the video stays on Facebook, one tap away.

It needs a public video. Posts limited to friends, to a private group, or taken down cannot be read.

Safari clears the site's data after about seven days without a visit. Signing in keeps your stacks past that, on every device.
