LOOPRUSH

Explained

TikTok Background audio: what it is and where it went

Background audio is a TikTok option that keeps a video's sound playing after you leave the app. Press and hold a video: if your TikTok has it, it appears next to Picture-in-Picture.

Not every phone gets it, and it comes and goes without notice. If you don't see it, nothing in Settings turns it on.

LoopRush does the same job on any phone: paste the video link, and the sound plays with the screen off, on repeat if you want, with lock-screen controls.

Works with TikTok links and Instagram Reels links. LoopRush plays the sound on its own; the video is one tap away when you want it.

See it work

Paste the link, play, lock the phone. 45 seconds, no sound.

Where the Background audio option is

  1. Open the video in TikTok and press and hold on it (the same options are under the Share button).
  2. Scroll the toolbar that appears to Picture-in-Picture. Background audio sits next to it when your phone has it.
  3. Choose Background audio, then swipe away from TikTok. That one video keeps playing.
  4. For a Live stream the option is under Share, then Background player, with picture-in-picture or audio-only.

Why the button is missing, or disappeared

TikTok switches the option on for some phones and not others, and it can vanish after an app update, leaving only Picture-in-Picture. There is no setting that brings it back and no version to install that guarantees it. If you had it last week and not today, you did nothing wrong.

What the option does when it works: it keeps the sound of the video you are on playing while you use another app or lock the phone. What it does not do: keep the sound afterwards, loop it, or line several up. When the video ends, or you open TikTok again, you start over.

Keep any TikTok sound playing, on any phone

Copy the video's link (Share, then Copy link), paste it into LoopRush in Safari or Chrome, and the sound plays on its own page. Lock the phone, switch apps, put it in your pocket: it keeps going, with play, pause and skip on the lock screen. Save it, and it is there tomorrow; put several into a stack and they play through like a playlist, with repeat one for a single sound on loop.

It works because the sound plays as ordinary browser audio, the way a music app plays, rather than as TikTok's video. Nothing to install, no account, and no TikTok login.

Questions

What does Background audio on TikTok do?
It keeps the sound of the video you are on playing after you leave the app or lock the phone. It covers that one video only; when it ends, playback stops.
Where is the Background audio setting on TikTok?
It is not in Settings. Press and hold a video and look next to Picture-in-Picture. For Live streams it is under Share, then Background player.
Why don't I have Background audio on TikTok?
TikTok has only switched it on for some phones. If it is not in your press-and-hold menu there is no way to enable it, and it may appear or disappear with app updates.
Is there a way to play TikTok sounds in the background without the option?
Yes. Paste the video link into LoopRush in Safari or Chrome. The sound plays as browser audio, so it keeps going with the screen off and shows controls on the lock screen. Works on iPhone and Android, free, no account.
Can Background audio loop a sound?
No. It plays the video once. LoopRush has repeat one, repeat all and shuffle across a stack of saved sounds.
Does Background audio work on iPhone?
On the phones that have it, yes, on both iPhone and Android. Whether your TikTok shows it is up to TikTok, not the phone.
