Play TikTok sounds in the background on iPhone
iOS suspends TikTok's video the moment you swipe away or lock the phone, and TikTok never opens a background audio session, so the sound goes with it. No iPhone setting changes that.
Safari can hold a background audio session, so the fix is to let a web page own the sound instead. Paste the video link into LoopRush in Safari and it plays the audio on its own, through the lock screen and Control Centre, with nothing to install.
Step by step in Safari
- In TikTok, open the video, tap Share, then Copy link.
- Open looprush2.com in Safari.
- Paste the link into the box and tap Play it.
- The sound extracts in a few seconds and starts playing.
- Lock the iPhone. The audio continues, and the lock screen shows the title, artwork and play, pause and skip.
Where the controls appear on iOS
Once the sound is playing, iOS treats it like any other media: the lock screen shows the track with transport buttons, Control Centre shows the same, and the play, pause and skip buttons on wired or AirPods-style headphones all work. That is the MediaSession API, which Safari supports and which TikTok's in-app player does not expose.
Playback also survives switching apps, so you can go back into TikTok and keep scrolling while the saved sound keeps going.
Why there is no TikTok share-sheet option on iPhone
On Android, installing a web app lets it appear in the system share sheet, so a video can be sent straight to it. iOS does not offer that to web apps at all, which is why the iPhone flow is copy the link, then paste. It is one extra tap and it is the only difference between the two platforms here.
If you add LoopRush to your Home Screen, do the Google sign-in first. iOS gives a Home Screen web app its own separate storage, so sounds you saved in Safari as a guest do not appear inside the installed app unless they are attached to an account.
What it does not do on iPhone
It does not save an audio file into Files or the camera roll, and it is not a ringtone maker. The sound plays from LoopRush, and the original video stays on TikTok.
It needs a public video. Private, deleted and region-locked posts cannot be read, and photo slideshows work only when the post carries a real audio track.
