How to
Play TikTok in the background
TikTok stops playing the moment you leave the app, and there is no setting that changes that.
LoopRush works around it: paste the video link, and it saves the sound as an audio track in a stack. That track keeps playing while you switch apps or lock the phone, with play, pause and skip on the lock screen where your browser supports the MediaSession API.
It is a separate web app, not a TikTok feature. It saves the audio, not the video.
Questions
- Does TikTok have a background play or audio-only mode?
- No. TikTok pauses playback when the app goes to the background or the screen locks, on both iPhone and Android. Anything that keeps the sound going has to happen outside the TikTok app.
- How does LoopRush keep the sound playing?
- You paste a TikTok video link. LoopRush extracts the audio on its server, stores a copy, and plays it through a normal HTML5 audio player in your browser. Browsers keep that kind of audio playing in the background and expose lock-screen controls through the MediaSession API.
- Do I need to install anything?
- No. It runs in Safari on iPhone and Chrome on Android. If you want it in your app list and in TikTok's share sheet, use your browser's Add to Home Screen; that is optional.
- Does it work with every TikTok link?
- It needs a public TikTok video (tiktok.com or vm.tiktok.com links). Private, deleted or region-locked videos cannot be extracted.
